Helpful Information

Environmental Hazards

Crampton Inspection Service does not provide environmental/lab testing.  As a courtesy, there are some items that we may identify during the visual inspection and include in the report.  Below is some helpful information about some possible environmental issues sometimes found in homes.  If we do see something suspicious during the visual inspection, we may recommend further review by a specialist to conduct a thorough evaluation.

  • Asbestos: Asbestos material that crumbles easily if sawed, scraped, or sanded into a powder is more likely to create a health hazard because it can be inhaled into the lungs, increasing the risk of disease. See Asbestos FAQ.
  • Lead: Lead is a highly toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes. In general, the older a home, the more likely it has lead-based paint. See Lead FAQ.
  • Mold: There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture. Molds can produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances. See Mold FAQ.
  • Radon: Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found in soils, rock, and water throughout the U.S. Radon is a threat to health because it tends to collect in homes, sometimes to very high concentrations. Because radon is colorless and odorless, it cannot be recognized during a visual inspection and requires special testing. See Radon FAQ.
  • Termites or other wood-destroying organisms: These pests cause serious damage to wooden structures and posts and can also attack stored food, household furniture, and books. See Termite Facts.

Order Your Own RecallChek Report

The RecallChek Story

Since 1974, home owners have been protected from dangerous items in their homes by federal law which prescribed a system whereby if a manufacturer designed a dangerous product, they MUST recall all those items and FIX THEM FOR FREE!

The problem in the law is that most often it's up to the consumer, to find out whether appliances are potential fire or safety hazards!

There is a database designed and managed by the government, but you would have to wade through 210 MILLION recalled items to find out if a dishwasher or air conditioner is a hazard to your clients family, until now.

RecallChek is the first consumer appliance recall reporting system ever created, and is available to you now.

How It Works

You simply take down the model numbers from all of the major appliances in your home, including, but not limited to, HVAC equipment, water heaters, microwaves, refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washing machines and dryers. You may also include garbage disposals, exhaust fans, and smoke detectors. Serial numbers are optional, but are encouraged to be submitted as well. Within 2 business days of submitting your appliances, you will receive a detailed report summarizing our findings.
